History
Spring was founded in the early 1800's. The rush of new residents increased after Texas won its independence from Mexico. In the 1870's, railroads were quickly expanding to the area. The railroad workers who laid the track worked through an extremely harsh winter. The workers were relieved when the winter had passed, and named the place where they first found relief Camp Spring. Later, the word Camp was dropped from the name, and the town that built up around the camp became known as simply Spring.
In the early 1900's, a railroad roundhouse was built, making Spring a key railroad facility. The town had 14 trackyards and over 100 workers. Spring began to decline in 1923 when the roundhouse was moved to Houston. But, Spring was revitalized with new residential areas when Houston started expanding to the northwest in the 1970's. Some of the old homes in Spring were restored to be used as retail shops.
