History
Tomball has been in existence for over 90 years. The town evolved from a railroad town to an oil town, to what it is today: a stable city where courtesy is extended to all, and a handshake carries as much weight as a contract.
The community was named in honor of State Senator Thomas Ball in 1907. Senator Ball was instrumental in establisihing Tomball as a railroad center. Today, Tomball is a commercial center for Houston's rapidly expanding northwest quadrant. The area's strong economic base is evidenced by local companies such as Compaq Computer Corporation, Kwik Kopy Corporation and BJ Services among others.
Tomball Homes
Tomball offers a variety of housing choices, including new custom homes, subdivision developments, apartments, home rentals and resale homes. Tomball also boasts a number of equestrian-oriented subdivisions that include larger lots. Home prices can range from $40,000 to $500,000, with many choices in between.
Recreation
Tomball and the region surrounding it is made up of open rural territory and forested land. Northeast of Tomball, you'll find Burroughs Park, a 330-acre Harris County multi-use recreation area. A unique part of the park is known as The Playground for All Children. This area meets the need of able-bodied and physically-challenged children. The area is totally wheelchair accessible, and includes pathways, picnic areas, a lake and ball fields.
At the northwest edge of Tomball, Spring Creek Park offers individuals and families covered picnic tables, basketball and tennic courts, baseball fields, camping and playgrounds. There are also a number of smaller local facilities in the Tomball area.
For golfers, the Tomball Country Club offers a 9 hole course, and there are 18 hole courses at the Treeline Golf Course and Houston Oaks Golf Club.
Performing arts are another part of the community's lifestyle. The Regional Arts Center of Tomball produces plays and other entertainment programs. One such program is the Royal Arts Ball, a major fund raising and social event.
Health Care
Tomball Regional Hospital is located within the center of the community. The Hospital is the fastest-growing acute medical facility in the northwest quadrant. Other facilities include the Texas Sports Medicine Center, an open-heart surgery program, over 250 beds, and a highly-trained and experienced staff.

The Tomball Independent School District has implemented innovations such as the SmartLab, where students learn computer design, and a life-skills center.
